THIS IS HOW IT
STARTED
It started with
the oldest of the Jara Brothers, Tony Jara, with his father’s fighting
determination running through his veins, arrived in Texas in 1975 at the
age of 14. He slept under bridges working just hours at a time in order
to buy food and to keep moving. He paid close attention to the names of
tools and their use. He was given a job by a carpenter who appreciated
the effort Tony put forth to learn. He worked as a carpenter for 6
years. Tony Jara had a dream. He wanted to form his own company where
he could employ his own brothers and help out with the upbringing of his
9 siblings.
His first
concrete job began in Bakersfield in 1981. Tony was hired due to his
superintendent’s recommendation. He put down his hammer and picked up a
sledgehammer. He learned to take advantage of the small opportunities
that came his way. Beginning as a laborer, he worked hard to get his
job done right. When people noticed his commitment to his work, it
fueled him to work even harder. Still, he never lost his focus….he
would own his own company. Within 2 yrs he became a supervisor. By
1990 he decided to get his C-8 license. With his C-8
license in hand Tony was joined by Jose Bernal, Hector, Jose, and Ray
Jara. Eventually, Tony Jara became Jara Brothers Construction, Inc.
The last two brothers, Rafael and Salvador Jara, later joined the team.
Now Tony’s dream was complete.
In 2005 with 16
years of experience, and two additional licenses to work with, a
General Contractor’s Class “B” and an Engineering Class “A” license,
Tony created Malier Contractors, Inc., named after his five children:
Michael, Alex, Lisa, Eric & Jennifer. Jara Brothers, known for doing
large residential tracks, no longer exists.
Tony always has
time to stop and help someone out, whether it’s to figure out which way
is best to complete a project or how to figure out concrete costs.
Tony’s always telling us, “Don’t’ forget where you came from, because
it’s just as important to remember where you came from as knowing where
you’re going.”
THIS
IS WHO WE ARE
We are 30 to 40
employees strong. We don’t advertise. Most of our work comes from word
of mouth. We’re pretty simple actually, we believe that in order to
succeed you give an honest bid, do a great job, keep the cost down for
the person who hired you, stand by your work, honor your commitment,
learn from your mistakes and never bite the hand that feeds you. We try
to be like the concrete that we pour: as long as we’re solid, we know
we will last.
AND THIS IS WHERE
WE’RE GOING
Malier
Contractors, Inc. specializes in commercial, engineering, & industrial
jobs. If you take a look through our gallery you will see what we’ve
been up to. We’ve extended our work radius to include the following
areas: San Francisco, San Diego, The Inland Empire, the High Desert,
Riverside and L.A. Counties, Orange County, Santa Barbara County, Kern
County and others. Currently we are bidding commercial jobs in Hawaii.
We are looking
into larger commercial, government, industrial & engineering jobs.
Bigger isn’t always better. But sometimes, it is. Maybe, some day
Malier will be building those freeway bridges that a certain boy of 14
slept under.
So what’s the
limit?.......What limit????
There’s a whole
world out there that isn’t covered in concrete…......…we need to get to
work!
